“All the world’s a stage,” Shakespeare wrote in As You Like It, but until now you have only seen a portion of what happens in Folger Theatre’s world—the on stage and in performance portion. With the debut of the Folger Theatre Production Diary, now you can get a broader view of Folger Theatre’s world and find out what’s happening in rehearsal, backstage, and beyond. In the coming months, cast members, production staff, scholars, and other key figures will share their discoveries and insights about Folger Theatre productions—from first rehearsals through closing night performances.
We begin the 2011/12 season with Othello and welcome Louis Butelli as our guest blogger. You may remember Louis, who is playing Roderigo in Othello, for his Helen Hayes Award-winning turn as Will Sommers in last season’s Henry VIII. A longtime collaborator with director Robert Richmond, he is the perfect choice to chronicle the creative process of bringing Shakespeare’s Othello to the Folger Theatre stage.
We hope you’ll join the conversation, and we look forward to your responses. See you at the theater!
