Synopsis:
Slender prepares to elope with Anne Page.
Enter Page, Shallow, ⌜and⌝ Slender.PAGE 2613 Come, come. We’ll couch i’ th’ castle ditch till we
2614 see the light of our fairies.—Remember, son Slender,
2615 my—
SLENDER 2616 Ay, forsooth, I have spoke with her, and we
2617 5 have a nayword how to know one another. I come
2618 to her in white and cry “mum,” she cries “budget,”
2619 and by that we know one another.
SHALLOW 2620 That’s good too. But what needs either your
2621 “mum” or her “budget”? The white will decipher
2622 10 her well enough. It hath struck ten o’clock.
PAGE 2623 The night is dark. Light and spirits will become
2624 it well. Heaven prosper our sport! No man means
2625 evil but the devil, and we shall know him by his
2626 horns. Let’s away. Follow me.
